Ira David Sankey (1840-1908) was a US gospel singer & composer. He was closely associated with the evangelist Dwight Moody and they together were involved in many evangelistic campaigns in the US and England in the later decades of the 19th century. He wrote or co-wrote many well-known gospel hymns.
