Gil Turner

Turner (1933-74) was an American folk singer songwriter, magazine editor, actor, activist & lay Baptist preacher.

He was a prominent figure in the Greenwich Village folk scene in the 1960s. He was emcee at the leading music venue Gerde's Folk City. He was co-editor of Broadside, a periodical on protest songs.

The folk ensemble New World Singers that he was part of was the first the release "Blowin' in the Wind" on the LP "Broadside Ballads Vol. 1" on Folkways Records.
